Last week, fans got their first look at Revival, the forthcoming SYFY series that will give a unique spin on the undead genre this summer. Adapted from the bestselling Image comic of the same name by writer Tim Seeley and illustrator Mike Norton, the show stars Wynonna Earp alum Melanie Scarfano as Dana Cypress, a cop faced with a mass resurrection of dead people in her small Wisconsin town. This supernatural phenomenon sparks outright fear on behalf of the living and cautious scientific interest on behalf of the CDC.
The genre-bending show hails from the duo of Aaron B. Koontz (Scare Package) and Luke Boyce (Revealer), who serve as showrunners and executive producers. Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, Daniel March, Greg Hemmings, and Stephen Foster also serve as executive producers.
“It’s a bit of Fargo meets Mare of Easttown with a horror/supernatural twist, centering around a murder mystery where the victim is now alive,” Koontz wrote on Instagram, describing the project as “farm noir.”
He continued: “It’s quirky and funny and weird and scary and twisting and so many things that I can’t go into just yet, but I promise you, it won’t be quite what you’re expecting. I love the family we built creating this and I love the show we made as a result.”

Revival features the acting talents of Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp) as Dana Cypress, Romy Weltman (Murdoch Mysteries) as Martha “Em” Cypress, David James Elliott (Mad Men) as Sheriff Wayne Cypress, Andy McQueen (Mrs. Davis) and Ibrahim Ramin.
Recurring guest stars include Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead), Phil Brooks aka CM Punk (Mayans M.C.), Gia Sandhu (A Simple Favor), Katherine King So (The Recruit), Maia Jae (In the Dark), Nathan Dales (Letterkenny), Mark Little (Doomlands), Glen Gould (Tulsa King), Lara Jean Chorostecki (Nightmare Alley), and Conrad Coates (Fargo).
“If I may, this show’s cast is one of its best features,” Boyce said on his own IG account. “It is just an absolute cornucopia of talented and wonderful individuals breathing life into some really cool characters. And so much more to come, but the fact that I got to work with these people… I mean, I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
