Ubisoft is reportedly working on a battle royale game that is “heavily inspired” by Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends.

Over the last few years, the battle royale genre of games has really taken off. Fortnite, H1Z1, and PUBG led the way, and have been closely followed by the likes of Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fall Guys.

While they all have their unique differences, the concept of them are the same: drop into a game, loot up, eliminate enemies, and be the last player or team standing.

Apex’s unique selling point is its legends. Each character has its own unique abilities, which you have to mesh with your gun skills to actually come out on top. It isn’t just about being the sharpest shot in the West when it comes to Repsawn’s game.

Ubisoft wants to take Apex Legends fans to new game

No one has really tried to emulate Apex’s way of doing things over the last few years. However, according to Insider Gaming, that could be set to change.

As per a report from Tom Henderson on April 16, Ubisoft is working on a new battle royale, currently using the code name ‘Scout’, that is “heavily inspired” by Apex and will have characters similar to Pathfinder, Wraith, and Lifeline.

Additionally, Henderson reports that Ubisoft is looking to “capitalize on the player count of Apex dropping” over the last 12 months.

Some of Respawn’s changes has pushed players away from Apex.

It is true that Respawn’s game has seen a drop in player count. Many fans have complained about a lack of fresh content, and have also urged the devs to address some of the long-standing issues that have plagued the game.

Others have criticized an increased focus on microtransactions too after Respawn and EA, their publishers, added a premium battle pass to the game. They also suggested that players would not be able to use Apex Coins for that, but that was reverted after some backlash.

Respawn has rolled out some changes to try and turn things around, including buffing pretty much every character and weapon in the game.

Season 25 of Apex is just around the corner, but it remains to be seen what they have up their sleeve for that.
