That Grammys spot was just the beginning for M3GAN 2.0‘s marketing campaign.
The hotly-anticipated sequel to 2022’s horror hit M3GAN has debuted its official trailer, which finds the titular doll (physically played by Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis) rebooted for an epic match-up against a new piece of artificial intelligence dubbed “Amelia” (Ivanna Sakhno). Like the T-800 in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, M3GAN is now on our side this time around…we hope.

Gerard Johnstone returned to direct the sophomore installment, which opens in theaters everywhere this summer. Allison Williams (Gemma), Violet McGraw (Cady), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Cole), and Jen Van Epps (Tess) reprise their characters from the first movie alongside a slew of franchise newcomers: Aristotle Athari (Silicon Valley), Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Concords).
In addition to directing the sequel, Johnstone also serves as an executive producer alongside Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Mark D. Katchur. James Wan and Jason Blum, who merged their two production companies last year, are producers with Allison Williams.

What is M3GAN 2.0 about?
The sequel takes place two years after Gemma and Cady defeated M3GAN with a helping hand from Bruce. Since then, Gemma has become a bestselling author and advocate for government oversight on the rise of A.I. Cady, on the other hand, is now a 14-year-old rebel, fed up with her aunt’s overprotective rules.
What the pair don’t know is that the underlying technology used to build M3GAN has been abused by a major defense contractor to build “the ultimate killer infiltration spy” known as Amelia. Not surprisingly, however, she comes to see humans as a pesky nuisance that must be eradicated. With the fate of our species on the line, Gemma sees no other option than to resurrect M3GAN (currently trapped in a non-lethal form) with a few upgrades, “making her faster, stronger, and more lethal.”
