Where did Harry Vanderspeigle (Alan Tudyk) suddenly disappear to at the end of last week’s Resident Alien?

How to Watch

Watch new episodes of Resident Alien on Fridays at 10/9c on SYFY and USA Network.

Season 4, Episode 6 — “Soul Providers” (written by Nastaran Dibai and Aaron Wiener) — answers that question without delay! Our favorite, maladjusted extra-terrestrial was unwillingly summoned by the Galactic Housing Council to answer for several crimes, including his refusal to leave Earth, messing up the Greys’ Yellowstone operation, kidnapping a human child, escaping the Greys’ moon base with Bruce (Jinkx Monsoon), and, worst of all, unleashing a Mantid alien into the wild.

“This was another opportunity to have real sci-fi in the show, not be on Earth,” director and executive producer Robert Duncan McNeill says in the latest look behind-the-scenes (see above).

Resident Alien Season 4, Episode 6 used same technology as The Mandalorian

The Galactic Housing Council’s heavenly headquarters was achieved with The Volume — aka StageCraft. Pioneered by legendary visual effects banner Industrial Light & Magic for use on Jon Favreau’s hit Star Wars TV show, The Mandalorian, the technology creates “a virtual environment,” McNeill explains. “It’s like being in a live video game.”

Virtual Production Supervisor Raphael Gaudin continues: “It’s not really just the LED panels. When you walk in, you see a lot of infrastructure that goes behind it. What makes this wall unique is that it’s not just a big TV. We track the position of where the camera is in space, like you’re actually moving through space when you look at it through the camera.”

In the end, the Council decides to strike a deal with Harry: If he fails to kill the Mantid, the Greys can have his newly-formed human soul, with the caveat that they give up on trying to reclaim the Hawthornes’ baby. At the same time, our protagonist can also have his alien energy back…at such time that a Council-appointed executor deems him worthy.
