Last year, we learned the wild news that Asta and Harry would welcome an inter-species child together in a brand-new Resident Alien comic entitled The Book of Life.

And so they did! But the family is about to get a whole lot bigger in the follow-up volume, The Book of Changes, hailing from the comic’s OG creative duo: writer Peter Hogan and illustrator Steve Parkhouse. we have an exclusive first look at the new story (launching this August via longtime publisher Dark Horse), which involves a friendly visit from Harry’s home-world.

“There’s more than one alien in town now — and they’re planning to change the world,” Hogan said in a statement.

This is just the kind of news Resident Alien fans have been craving as they await an official premiere announcement for Season 4 of the hit TV adaptation starring Alan Tudyk as Harry and Sara Tomko as Asta. While the first three seasons aired on SYFY (stream all available episodes on Peacock right here), the show will move to USA Network for its next installment.

“Right from minute one, Dark Horse thought this thing had legs … that it could make it on TV or as a movie,” Hogan told SYFY WIRE in 2020. “So they were trying from day one to find a home for this in Hollywood. I had various sort of odd conversations with various odd people over the years and then they’d all just go away again. So it’s been very odd. It’s been a long, long wait. But [Dark Horse founder and President] Mike Richardson assures me that this was one of the quick ones because it only took nine years or 10 years or whatever it was [laughs].”

The official synopsis for the comic series is as follows:

“Return to Patience, USA, the seemingly sleepy town with numerous mysteries and secrets — and a handful of those are interplanetary! In-hiding alien Harry and his human love Asta, having recently welcomed their child Clover into the world, now host several visitors from Harry’s home planet. Agent Jones returns, and the struggle to keep up appearances may be even more difficult than raising a child, especially if their guests can’t keep a low profile.”

Marking the ninth volume in the series that kicked off in 2013, Resident Alien: The Book of Changes #1 (of 4) goes on sale in comic book shops Wednesday, August 20.
