REJECT WINNITY pulled off a huge upset against powerhouse teams to rule the Apex Legends Global Series 2024 Split Playoffs (ALGS 2024 Split 1 Playoffs), and become the first squad from APAC North to win a global LAN event.

The Japan-based team, composed of South Korean players Lim “Obly” Jung-hyun, Lee “KaronPe” Min-hyuk, Han “SangJoon” Sang-jun, and coach Kim “ahn2e” Gun-ho, edged out 39 teams in the tournament, including perennial winners DarkZero Esports and TSM from North America, as well as heavy contenders from APAC South.

RCW bagged the top prize of US$300,000 and 500 Playoff Points, which are important in qualifying for the ALGS 2024 Championship, the esports circuit’s culminating tournament.

After skipping the ALGS last year, REJECT partnered with WINNITY and signed Obly, KaronPe, and SangJoon following the expiration of their contracts with REALIZE.

The squad came up with a runner-up finish behind Fnatic in the regional league to qualify for the ALGS 2024 Split 1 Playoffs held from May 2 to 5 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, USA.

RCW finished fifth with 136 points in the Group Stage to enter the winners’ bracket of the Bracket Stage. They posted 59 points to seize second place behind Fnatic and earn advanced starting points going to the Finals.

In the Finals, REJECT WINNITY and 2022 world champion DarkZero Esports were the first two teams to clinch match point, collecting 55 points each after five games.

However, neither of them was able to close out the tournament in the next two rounds, allowing Fnatic, Not Moist, Legends Gaming, Aurora Gaming, and Disguised to also get match points.

But the South Korean trio remained composed in game 8 on World’s Edge, and secured a strategic position with several of the title contenders already eliminated heading to the final circle.

After taking out Disguised, REJECT WINNITY outplayed Cloud9 and Serenity in the final battle to seal their first championship trophy on the global stage.
