The competition is starting today, so let’s take a look ath the LEC 2024 Winter Tierlist before the first round of the year!
We’ve looked at all the changed (and in the case of G2 Esports, unchanged) teams of the LEC, the strongest EMEA League of Legends tournament. Some teams look great, while others are huge question marks even before we see them on Summoner’s Rift. Each squad is capable of rising to the occasion and surprising everyone, but before the league begins, we can already make some assumptions about the power levels of each squad – and that’s what we’re going to do in this tierlist!
LEC 2024 Winter Tierlist – Week 0
MAD Lions KOI made the biggest gamble in the entire roster, as they only kept one member of their former squad. That wouldn’t be an issue in and of itself, but the Spanish organization signed 4 rookies for the 2024 Winter Split. Provided that 3 of them played for Movistar Riders and were successful in the LVP SuperLiga, while Myrwn was also a capable player of BISONS ECLUB, there’s just too many variables in MAD Lions KOI to trust them yet.
After MAD, we enter the middle of the pack – which starts right at 9th place on this tierlist. SK Gaming had a great split last Winter, but as they fell off hard in Spring and Summer, that can be attributed to the meta still shaping a year ago. This time around, they signed Nisqy and Isma, which were good decisions in a vacuum, but looking at the roster of SK, they might not work out. Isma can play carry junglers, but betting on a rookie is always a risk, while Nisqy has been known as a “supportive” midlaner in the LEC. This puts a lot of pressure on Exakick, and based on his last year, SK Gaming might fall just a bit short in Winter.
Rogue, previously known as KOI had a very mediocre season in 2023. While they found some success in the Spring Split, they were unable to get into the Season Finals – even though they won the LEC in 2022. With Markoon and Zoelys, they have a chance at redemption, but the two new members have to get the veterans of the squad out of the slump they fell in last year, and also iron out the issues Rogue has in the early game.
GIANTX is the only team that performed badly in 2023 that I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt to. The reason for that is Odoamne and Patrik, as well as the addition of IgNar to the squad. Peach wasn’t bad last year, as he became the glue that held Excel Esports together, but he wasn’t exceptional compared to the rest of the junglers. Jackies is the biggest question in all of the LEC, as he came from the “weakest” ERL out of all the rookies, and mid-jungle will be as important as ever – and that’s not the strongest point of GX.
Team BDS only swapped one member, and they were at Worlds last year – still they don’t get higher on the list as the rest of the roster above them became even more stacked. Adam and especially Sheo have proved themselves, even though they are both a bit one dimensional, and need to work on their champion pools. Ice should be a clear upgrade over Crownie in terms of consistency, but if nuc can’t rise to the challenge, Team BDS will remain hovering around the middle of the standings.
Karmine Corp crept up to the top 5 on the list. They are the newest team to enter the LEC, and they look spicy. With returning veteran Cabochard and hyped players Bo and Upset, they look like a strong team. But assumptions are not the reason KC cracked the top 5, it’s because they have a team that’s well put together. Saken and Bo can swap who’s the carry and who’s the support in their mid-jungle, Cabo can always surprise everyone with a Lee Sin pick, and Upset and Targamas are perfect for the botlane meta of 14.1. If they can start the season with a bang, their momentum can carry them far.
Even though Team Vitality failed miserably in the LEC 2023 Summer Split, they are back with a revamped roster. Only keeping the best part of their previous lineup, Photon, they brought in some big guns with Vetheo, Carzzy and Hylissang. Rookie jungler Daglas also got a real chance to prove himself. This VIT roster has some players that give hope, as the botlane of MAD Lions had a great season last year, and Vetheo has been ramping up as well. Outside of G2 Esports, they also have the best toplaner in the League – hopefully, they don’t crash and burn again.
Last split, Team Heretics slowly climbed the ranks of the LEC. Jankos and co. have finished the Summer Playoffs in 4th place, but after a catastrophic Winter and Spring season, that was a miracle. They also looked less shaky than Excel Esports, and put together a roster of Wunder, Perkz, Flakked, Kaiser and Jankos (otherwise known as G3), which irons out basically all of their issues. Just don’t call them a superteam to avoid any curses, and Heretics should be a top contender this year.
While Heretics had a nice glowup, Fnatic improved the most over the course of the 2023 LEC Season. Starting out as a bottom tier team, they made it to the top 3 of Summer after the addition of Noah and Trymbi, who then got to the last match of the Season Finals. For this year, they let Trymbi go to have a fully Korean botlane. We know that Noah had some language issues last year, and while he has been working on that, having another Korean player as his duo should help with his consistency. And if he can expand his champ pool, Fnatic can realistically be the 2nd best team in the LEC.
Only 2nd, as none compare to G2 Esports. The only team to make zero changes coming into 2024, they are still the champions of the LEC. The new season also favours them, as they are still the most creative squad in the EMEA region. Any member of the team can carry, and did so last year as well. While they are not unbeatable (as they proved in the international stage), they are a step above the rest of the LEC this year as well.
The 2024 LEC Winter Split is shaping up to be the best one yet. With the refined schedule and format, teams should be more prepared to face each other, as well as the best in the world – but first, they have to get through the teams that are above them in the tierlist. Tune back in next week for the ESTNN LEC 2024 Winter Tierlist after Week 1 of the League of Legends EMEA Championship!
