Surprise! The Woman in The Yard, the latest horror team-up between Universal Pictures and Blumhouse, is now available to rent and/or purchase on digital platforms by way of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Hailing from first-time feature writer Sam Stefanak and veteran horror director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, The Shallows), the movie stars Danielle Deadwyler as Ramona a grieving mother of two who confronts a supernatural threat shortly after the death of her husband, David (Russell Horsby). Said threat takes the form of a mysterious woman (Okwui Okpokwasili) sitting on the front lawn of the family’s remote farmhouse. Peyton Jackson and Estella Kahiha round out the core cast as Ramona’s children: Taylor and Annie.

“It’s the story a mother trying to protect her kids, even when she doesn’t seem able to protect herself,” producer Jason Blum says in an official statement. “Ultimately, it’s about that parent-child bond and its power, and limits.”

“Sam wrote a personal story, so the root of the story is authentic,” adds fellow producer Stephanie Allain. “The lead changed genders and race but the story still maintained that power and relatability. If anything, over time the story became even more relevant. Sometimes what you conjure is scarier than any monster. The Woman in the Yard speaks to a generation of folks who are coping with inner demons and outer chaos. The fear is real. It’s coming from inside the house. That’s real horror.”

She continues: “If you know Jaume, you understand his attraction to this material. He only wears black and he’s not the cheeriest fellow! He’s very intense. I think he was looking for the creative autonomy that Jason and Blumhouse provide; a chance to explore his own psyche and to do it within the genre.”
