February’s top games
Circana, the research firm formerly known as NPD, has published its latest monthly sales report, revealing which games sold the best for February 2024 in the US. The report also reveals key industry trends and revenue figures that speak to how the business is performing overall.
In terms of game sales, Sony’s Helldivers II was February 2024’s best-selling game in the US. It also became 2024’s best-selling game overall, dethroning Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Of note, about 60% of sales of Helldivers II came on Steam, Circana reported.
Additionally, Circana said Helldivers II had the seventh-best first-month sales for any Sony-published game of all time, and that includes the traditional heavyweights like God of War, Uncharted, Horizon, and more.
Total spending on games in February–comprising software, hardware, accessories, and mobile–reached $4.146 billion, up 5% year-over-year. Hardware spending, however, fell 30%.
PS5 led the way in terms of unit and dollar sales, but all three platforms–PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch–experienced significant declines year-over-year. In fact, all three platforms were down at a minimum of 19% year-over-year.
Spending on mobile games was a bright spot, with revenue rising 17% year-over-year thanks in part to the breakout success of Monopoly Go.
